ISO FACEMILL HOLDER

ISO FACEMILL HOLDER

Cargo Carbide ISO Facemill Holder is designed for mounting compatible face milling cutters on CNC machining centers using an ISO taper spindle interface. The holder provides a dedicated connection between the machine spindle and face mill, making it suitable for surface milling, stock removal and production machining applications.

Unlike an ER collet chuck, which grips cylindrical-shank tools, an ISO Facemill Holder is designed around the mounting requirements of face milling cutters. The cutter is positioned against the holder's mounting face and secured using the appropriate arbor mounting arrangement.

This type of tooling is commonly used where the machining process requires a relatively large cutter to cover a wider surface area. Face milling can be used for producing flat surfaces, removing material from workpiece faces and preparing components for subsequent machining operations.

ISO/DIN 69871 face mill holders are available in different machine taper sizes and cutter-mounting diameters. Industry examples include ISO40 and ISO50 configurations with cutter-side diameters such as 16, 22, 27, 32 and 40 mm, depending on the holder design.

The correct holder should be selected according to the CNC machine's ISO taper, face mill mounting diameter, required gauge length and cutter specifications. Exact Cargo Carbide sizes should be added according to your actual available stock.

Key Benefits

1. Designed for Face Milling Cutters

The holder is specifically configured for compatible face milling cutters rather than cylindrical-shank tools.

2. Direct ISO Machine Interface

The ISO taper provides the machine-side connection for compatible CNC machining centers.

3. Suitable for Wide Surface Machining

Face mills can cover a relatively broad cutting path, making them useful for producing flat surfaces and removing material efficiently.

4. Dedicated Cutter Mounting

The arbor provides a purpose-built mounting arrangement for compatible face milling cutters.

5. Different Cutter-Mounting Options

Industry ranges include different cutter-side diameters such as 16, 22, 27, 32 and 40 mm, allowing selection according to the face mill's mounting specification.

6. Multiple Length Options

Different gauge lengths allow the tooling setup to be selected according to workpiece access, machine clearance and machining requirements.

7. Suitable for Production Milling

The holder can form part of a CNC production tooling system for repeated face milling and surface-machining operations.

Why Use an ISO Facemill Holder?

An ISO Facemill Holder is useful when a CNC machining center needs to mount a compatible face milling cutter directly to its spindle tooling system.

Face milling is commonly used when the workpiece requires a flat or prepared surface. The cutter can remove material across a wider area than a small end mill, making a dedicated face-mill mounting system useful for production machining.

The ISO Facemill Holder therefore serves a different purpose from your other ISO tooling products:

  • ISO ER Collet Chuck → cylindrical-shank end mills, drills and reamers
  • ISO Side Lock Holder → Weldon-shank milling tools
  • ISO Facemill Holder → face milling cutters

How to Select the Correct ISO Facemill Holder

1. Identify the Machine Taper

Check whether the CNC machine uses ISO30, ISO40, ISO50 or another compatible spindle taper.

2. Check the Face Mill Mounting

The cutter-side mounting diameter and locating arrangement must match the face mill.

3. Select the Required Length

Choose a gauge length appropriate for the workpiece, machine clearance and required tool projection.

4. Check Cutter Diameter

The holder must be suitable for the selected face mill and its mounting dimensions.

5. Consider Machining Depth

For shallow surface work, a compact setup may be suitable. Deeper or obstructed work may require a different holder length.

6. Check Coolant Arrangement

If through-tool or front coolant is required, verify the exact holder configuration before ordering. DIN 69871 face-mill holders are available with different coolant arrangements depending on design.

7. Match the Complete Tooling Assembly

Always check:

Machine taper → ISO size → face-mill mounting diameter → gauge length → cutter specification → coolant requirement

Face Milling Tool Selection

The holder is only one part of the complete face milling system. Cutting performance also depends on the selected face mill, insert geometry, insert grade, workpiece material, cutter diameter, spindle speed, feed rate, depth of cut and machine rigidity.

For example, a face mill used for steel should be selected with an insert grade and geometry appropriate for steel, while aluminium machining may require a different cutter and insert configuration.
